Born in Breese, Illinois, on Monday, November 22, 1954, the son of George T. and Delores (Hilmes) Grady. On December 18, 1973, he married the love of his life, Kathleen Branon, and they celebrated 52 years of marriage. Doug lived a life full of love, laughter, and devotion to his family and community.
A dedicated professional, Doug spent his career at the City of Centralia Waste Water Treatment Plant, where his commitment to his work was appreciated by colleagues and community members alike for 42 years. Known as a people person, Doug never met a stranger. His warm personality and infectious smile left a lasting impression on everyone he encountered.
Doug’s life was defined by his deep love for his family. He is survived by his devoted wife, Kathy Grady of Centralia, and his cherished daughter, Misty Grady of Carterville. He was a proud grandfather to five grandchildren: Lexy Patton, Gavin Douglas Grady, Marley Grady, Madison Grady, and Brayden Albert. His legacy continues in his two great-grandchildren, Kyan Harris and Truu Kirgan.
As a family man, Doug was happiest when watching his grandchildren play sports or spending quality time with his loved ones. Doug was an avid fan of the St. Louis Cardinals and found joy in sharing the excitement of the game with fellow fans. In his younger years, he played slow-pitch softball, where he met a lot of friends. Doug and Kathy enjoyed dancing together at Peggy Sue’s and The Moose, creating memories that would last a lifetime. His penchant for enjoying life’s simple pleasures was evident when unwinding with a cold Busch Light Apple. Doug’s enduring spirit and love will be deeply missed by all who knew him. He leaves behind a legacy of kindness, laughter, and love.
Doug is also survived by his brother, Michael “Hootie” Grady, and his two sisters, Kim Grady and Lisa Grady Jones, as well as several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, George T. and Delores Grady, his daughter, Christy Grady, and his brother, Mark Grady.
