Traffic was diverted around the West McCord/Jolliff Bridge Road intersection on the west side of Centralia for more than eight hours on Monday as a result of a directional boring striking a natural gas line six feet underground.
Ameren Illinois had to call in a special welder and trench machine to reach and repair the break.
The two closest businesses, KFC and Team Mobile, were closed due the gas leak.
The line broke around 1 Monday afternoon with repairs completed around 9:30 Monday night.
