The Salem Community Thanksgiving Dinner served just over 1,200 on Saturday.

Chris Watkins of Saved with Amazing Grace says 35 volunteers helped put the dinner together and deliver meals.

“It is going awesome man it’s been a great day today started early this morning about 5 this morning started cooking the food and got everything ready. Then all the volunteers stepped in, and Things are running smoothly.”

Watkins says 115 turkeys were smoked for the dinner. They ran out of some of the sides and had to purchase more.

Watkins says blanket donations were up.

“We had 120 blankets donated which is about 20 more than last year which is awesome. Everybody gets a blanket this year.”

Watkins says more also dined in at the Apostolic Church this year, something he encouraged. In addition to home deliveries, volunteers also took meals to those who had to work on Saturday.
