A fire that damaged the living room of a second story apartment at the Garden Glen Complex on South 34th Street in Mt. Vernon remains under investigation by the State Fire Marshal, Mt. Vernon Fire arson investigators, and Mt. Vernon Police detectives.
Mt. Vernon city firemen say the occupant of the apartment had left just a short time before the fire was discovered. The building was evacuated during the firefighting efforts. Everyone was allowed to return to their apartments, except the one where the fire occurred. Only minor smoke damage was reported outside the unit that was on fire.
There were no injuries.
The fire call came in at 9:55 Tuesday night with firemen on the scene investigating the cause of the fire until 12:30 Wednesday morning.
Jefferson Fire and Litton’s Ambulance provided mutual aid on the scene while Kell Firemen covered the Mt. Vernon fire station in the event of another fire.
