The Centralia High School Drama Club is performing ‘Murder on the Orient Express’ this weekend.

Director Jami Jacobs says the mystery drama is based on the novel of the same name written by Agatha Christie.

“The lead character is Hercule Poirot,” Jacobs said. “He is a Belgian detective who boards a train from Istanbul to Paris. There is a murder on the train, and they end up getting stuck in the snow, so he has to solve the murder.”

Thailand foreign exchange student Juthamas Hualkasim is excited to be participating in her role as Princess Dragomiroff.

“I’ve been in production for as long as I can remember, I think since pre-kindergarten,” Hualkasim said. “Coming here and meeting my friends in drama club is like a dream come true. We have spotlights, we have mics and this stage. It’s my dream come true.”

Hualkasim says they don’t have the professional equipment at her school in Thailand.   She’s hopeful of finishing up her high school in Thailand next year before possibly returning to the US for college.

Senior Tommy Farmer has been involved in multiple plays during his high school career and is excited for his first major role as Hector McQueen.

“I’ve been looking at colleges where I can double major in fine arts and theater,” Farmer said. “I know double majoring is a lot, but I really do love theater. I wish I had done it in my childhood, because this is just so fun. I’ve found my people here.”

The play will be performed at seven p.m. Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights, with a three p.m. matinee on Sunday at the Centralia High School Cafe.  Tickets are $5 in advance at centraliamusic.ludus.com or $7 at the door.
