Centralia Mayor Bryan Kuder will ask the city council Monday night to approve his choice of Thomas Henegar to fill the city council’s opening.
Kuder says Henegar is currently the head of Adult Education at Kaskaskia College and is a former candidate for Mayor of Centralia.
“He was an individual who ran against me in my first mayoral election. At the time, I didn’t know he was, but I got to know him, and he became a very good friend. I think he can bring a very good decision-making ability to the council. I’m looking forward to working with him. ”
If the city council concurs with the choice, Henengar will be seated on Monday. He fills the seat left vacant by Rob Jackson, who resigned from the council to become the city’s economic development director. Henengar will serve until the April 2027 city elections.
Mayor Kuder also plans to seek Councilwoman Barri Allen’s approval to become the next mayor pro tem. Jackson also held that position.
The Centralia City Council meeting begins at six on Monday night at Centralia City Hall.
