On May 14, 1928, Julia Ann Netherton was welcomed to this world at the Old St. Mary’s Hospital in Centralia, Illinois, by her parents: Father, John R. Netherton, and Mother, Verna E. (Garner) Netherton.
During her years on earth, she enjoyed creativity in fashion and growing beautiful flowers. After graduating from ETHS in 1946 with Honors in Commerce, she entered the business world at Hoffman Clothiers as a cashier and bookkeeper.
Then, an auto accident interrupted her life, and she changed to Dentistry as a chair-side Dental Assistant for the next 25 years in the Dental Office of Dr. Roy F. Kasten. During this time, she organized the Centralia-Salem Dental Assistants Society and over the years of this group promoted education of Dental Assisting by seminars, schooling, and workshops. Those classes helped promote Julia to Certified Dental Assistant, and she received her cap, which was a joyous occasion at Kaskaskia College. Over the next few years, she was elected President of the South of Springfield Illinois Dental Assistant Association for a year. Fate interfered once again as Dr. Kasten passed away suddenly.
At that time, creativity entered and a business of Ladies Alternations was formed and was around for 22 years. Julia was a lifelong member of the First Presbyterian Church in Centralia.
And so the story ends…..
So long Big Mac, until we meet again.
Per Julia’s wishes cremation rites will be accorded and a private burial will be held at Elmwood Cemetery in Centralia, where we will lay her to rest next to her mother.
