A new event debuts in Salem this weekend.

May Market will be held Friday evening and Saturday at the Marion County Fairgrounds.

The Greater Salem Chamber of Commerce is sponsoring what they want to make an annual event. Executive Director Jessiycka Coleman says the
event originally was going to begin last May, but had to be delayed a year due to COVID-19 restrictions.

“Friday and Saturday we are running a May Market.  It’s going to be an amazing festival.  It’s going to start Friday night and is going to have artesian hand crafted vintage vendors that will be out there with food trucks and live entertainment both days.  Friday night is going to be 4pm-8pm and Saturday will be 10am-4pm.”

Coleman says there will be a lot of good music.

“Up All Night STL is a St Louis cover band that does all kinds of genres and will be great for the whole family to come out, shop, eat and bring your lawn chairs Friday night and hang out local at the Marion County Fairgrounds.  Saturday we are going to have 3 local artists who will be coming out.  Performing will be Angela French, Taylor Steel and Alyssa Moore.”

Coleman says admission Friday night is $10, which will then allow readmission on Saturday at no charge. Saturday’s admission is $5. Coleman has been promoting the event on social media across the region and nearby cities in hopes of bringing people to Salem for the weekend.
