The Salem Grade School Board seated a new member and reorganized at a special meeting Thursday night.

Jason Smith is joining the board.

“I wanted a chance to serve my community and help my kids.  They all go to school in this district so I wanted to help make sure they have a quality education.”

Smith is an estimator for Howell Paving in Salem and hopes his knowledge of the construction industry can offer some assistance to the board as they  complete a large improvement project at the schools.

Current Board Members John Gaston, Amanda Hartley, and Kerry Richards were sworn in for new terms. Current board member Patty Squibb also won re-election but was absent from the reorganization meeting.

After the board members took the oath, new officers were elected.

Alisha Ambuehl was the unanimous choice to be the new board chairman.

“I feel honored to be nominated and I accepted.  I really appreciate this district and everything it does in our community.”

Ambuehl has served on the board the past six-years.

Outgoing board chair John Gaston was elected vice-chair. Connie Graham was re-elected as board secretary and Myron Lloyd as treasurer.
