The State Fire Marshal’s office has joined Salem Fire and Salem Police in investigating the cause of a suspicious fire in a condemned home at 1124 South Rotan early Wednesday morning.
Salem Assistant Fire Chief Bill Fulton says the home was well involved in flames on their arrival.
“The initial report we had was that a neighbor called who had heard a loud crash and seen the front porch of this home was fully engulfed in flames,” Fulton said. “On arrival, we found that the house was fully involved. We pulled a couple of large lines and knocked it down pretty quickly. The house has no utilities, no electricity to it or anything like that, so we have the State Fire Marshal here investigating the cause and origin.”
Fulton says no other buildings were threatened. The house was mostly vacant with just a few small items inside that were also lost.
Odin firemen provided mutual aid at the scene. Kell stood by at the Salem Fire Station in the event of another fire.
The fire call came in at 3:53 Wednesday morning. Firemen remained on the scene for about three hours.
