Both the driver and passenger of a car that was involved in a crash on I-57 south of the Kinmundy exit were taken to Salem Township Hospital for treatment early Saturday morning.
Initial information indicates the car was involved in a crash with a semi truck that left the scene. The car received substantial front-end damage and later caught fire.
The driver, identified as 28-year-old Miquel Gordon of Carterville, and the passenger, 35-year-old Tevin Gordon of Mt. Vernon, were taken by Kinmundy-Alma ambulance to the hospital for treatment. Both occupants were out of the vehicle before the fire and emergency help arrived.
The crash occurred around three Saturday morning.
