The Salem City Council Monday night voted to put its Animal Control Facility at 4700 Carter Road in Kell up for sale to the highest bidder.

Mayor Nic Farley believes the Marion County Board could be interested.

“I don’t believe there would be a long-term proposal for us both operating out of that facility,” Farley said. “I think it would provide us with an opportunity to potentially move animal control closer in town. We’ll see whether we get bids for it and whether they’re interested. We could also not get any bids and keep operations where they are right now.”

Farley says the current location means long trips out of town for city employees who operate the facility.   He reports no decision has been made on where the new Salem Animal Control Facility could be located.
