The cause of a fire that burned an abandoned home south of Mt. Vernon early Saturday morning has not been determined.
The fire on Triton Lane had already burned through the metal roof and had spread through part of the home by the time it was spotted by a passerby and reported. The home is likely a total loss
There were no reports of injuries in the fire.
Jefferson Fire called Mt. Vernon City, Woodlawn, Waltonville, and Bluford Firemen to the scene, while Kell and Wayne City stood by at the Jefferson Fire Station in the event of another fire.
