Centralia City Manager Galen Mahle confirmed at Monday night’s regular council meeting that council member Rob Jackson will resign his seat on the council and become the city’s economic development director. The economic development director position has remained vacant for nine months. Mahle said the city did not rush to fill the vacancy because they wanted to make sure that the person they hired was the right one for the job.

In his last meeting as a council member, Rob Jackson thanked everyone he has worked with at city hall and said he looks forward to taking on his new role.

“I can’t say thank you enough to all of you, to the department heads, city administration, to this council and mayor,” Jackson said. “I’m looking forward to hitting the ground running, learning a lot, and helping us progress, move forward and make good partnerships. It has been fun, and it has been a great experience.”

Jackson will begin work as economic development director on September 15 and will go to the Illinois Municipal League annual conference on September 18 to attend trainings and seminars relevant to his new position.
