A 23-year-old Muncie, Indiana, man has been arrested in connection with the shooting of another vehicle on I-57 at northbound mile marker 91 at the south split with I-64 south of Mt. Vernon.
Mason Prichard is being held in the Jefferson County Jail for aggravated discharge of a firearm to an occupied vehicle.
The sheriff’s department received a 911 call of a shot being fired from a minivan that was believed to have gone east on I-64 on Friday morning. The vehicle was spotted by two Jefferson County Sheriff’s Deputies inside Wayne County. They initiated a felony stop on Illinois Route 242 just inside Hamilton County. Other police units from Mt. Vernon, Wayne County, and the State Police arrived to assist.
Three subjects were detained on the stop, and Prichard was quickly identified as the shooter. The three were transported to the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office for questioning. With the shooting happening on Interstate 57, the state police requested to finish the investigation and Sheriff’s Office Deputies and Detectives assisted them.
No injuries were reported, and just one vehicle was hit by gunfire.
