The sanctioned boat races return to Raccoon Lake this weekend.  This is the 21st year of the event which has been coordinated since the beginning by Al Owen, who is a racer himself.

“We are expecting a good turnout this year. We are once again having the National Boat Racing Association, and we’re having the US title series with us again, also, and they’re having one of their series races. Pretty much the same as last year, so we’re expecting crowds to be similar as far as participants and drivers for this year also. We expect probably 50 to 60 trailers with about 120 or 130 entries.”

Main competition will be Friday, Saturday and Sunday from noon to five.  The best viewing is at Castle Ridge which is once again holding its Smoke on the Water festival with food, drink, and vendors.

The city of Centralia has closed the Raccoon Lake boat ramp area and Point Park until six Sunday night because of the event.
