The new large interstate US Flag will be dedicated during ceremonies at five Tuesday evening.
The new flag pole is located behind the city welcome sign at Kinney Boulevard and West Main Street, next to the former Pizza Hut building.
The Interstate Flag Pole was initially on the other side of West Main, but at some point, electricity to the site was cut and not restored, resulting in the flag not being able to fly at night due to a lack of a light to illuminate it.
The new pole is on city-owned property to avoid any future problems. The ceremony was planned by the Salem Tourism Board, which fully funded the new pole.
The flags will be maintained by the Flag Foundation, which is made up of Salem Elks members.
The ceremony will include music by the brass band.
