Those who want to learn more about ballooning and would like to help crew a balloon during this weekend’s Balloon Fest are invited to crew training Wednesday night.
Chamber Executive Director Marcus Holland says all you need to do is show up at 5:30 Wednesday night at Foundation Park.
“We will have local pilots and friendly pilots to explain how ballooning works even if you’re just interested in that,” Holland said. “Then we’ll have last minute sign up for crew. Some of our sponsors don’t have crew yet; we’ll make sure that they get them. Any unassigned crew, we actually hope that they come to the park on Friday and Saturday night. If they’re unassigned and we see that somebody needs help, we’ll tell them which balloon they can help in the park. Wednesday is a great time to learn what’s going on.”
Balloon Fest is scheduled to open at three Friday afternoon, with a Friday evening balloon flight and glow if weather permits. A second glow is set for Saturday night in Foundation Park. Balloon flights over the city of Centralia are planned Saturday and Sunday morning. All the flights and glows are weather permitting.
A $10 arm band gets you entry to Foundation Park both Friday and Saturday. Sunday activities are free.
