Great weather brought 23 pilots to Salem Leckrone’s Field over the weekend to participate in the annual Aerobatics Competition.

One of the long-time pilots to the event, Rob Bond of Knoxville, Tennessee, says he likes the Salem competition.
“It’s exciting, but people think it’s a thrill thing. It’s a highly focused thing we are trying to fly every maneuver exactly precisely. It’s not going to do the maneuver. You know, loops are supposed to be round, and vertical lines are supposed to be perfectly vertical. There is a group of judges out there that are telling us what we are doing wrong.”

The points earned in the Salem competition go to their annual total for all of the contests they participate.
The Contest Director Bruce Ballew is appreciative of the year support from the City of Salem and the Salem Tourism Commission that helps make the event possible.
