Mt. Vernon Police say two more people have been arrested in connection with the July 27th shooting that killed two and injured five others.
25-year-old Davonta Boyd of Mt. Vernon was arrested for aggravated discharge of a firearm. Dequan Hopkins of Wayne City was arrested for aggravated discharge of a firearm and unlawful possession of a firearm by a repeat offender.
Police say the arrests are the result of a continued investigation and search warrants conducted on Wednesday.
Mt. Vernon Police last week arrested Jamaro Kemmerling for aggravated discharge of a firearm and unlawful possession of a firearm by a repeat felony offender. During a Wednesday Jefferson County Court appearance, Kemmerling waived a formal arraignment and pleaded NOT guilty. The case is now set for a pre-trial conference on August 19th.
The first person arrested in connection with the case later had charges dropped in Jefferson County Court the same day they were filed. Prosecutors maintain the right to refile the charges in the future.
Mt. Vernon Police say the investigation into the shooting at a party in the 600 block of South 15th is still active and ongoing. Anyone with information that leads to the arrest of an offender could be eligible for a reward up to $2,500. Please call the Mt.
