Ronald Dean Shaw, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away peacefully on Monday, July 28th, 2025, at the age of 89 in Centralia, Illinois. Born on Wednesday, March 18th, 1936, in Centralia, Ronald was a cherished member of the community throughout his life. He is the son of Jack and Ina Shaw. On August 9, 1960, he married Betty (Dodson) Shaw and she survives.
Ronald proudly served his country in the Army, instilling in him a sense of duty and discipline that he carried into his civilian life. A dedicated and self-employed businessman, Ronald was well-respected in his field and known for his unwavering work ethic. He served as a police officer and owner and operated the 20th Century Sporting store.
His love for life extended beyond his professional endeavors. An ardent fan of the St. Louis Cardinals, Ronald enjoyed sharing his passion for baseball with his family. He loved to golf, was often found at the slot machines trying his luck, and took great joy in coaching youth sports, instilling valuable lessons in the young athletes he mentored.
Above all, Ronald cherished his family. He is survived by his devoted wife, Betty Shaw of Centralia; his loving children, Roger Shaw and wife Gaye of Centralia, and Linda Paschal of Centralia. Ronald was the proud grandfather of Nathan Paschal, Stacey Paschal, Matthew Shaw and wife Crystal of Houston, Texas, Josh Shaw of Texas, Robbie Shaw, and Ryan Shaw both of Centralia. He also leaves behind his treasured great-grandchildren, Elliott, Emeritt, Owen, Kyndel, and Gavin. His legacy continues in the hearts of his family, who remember him most as a loving and dedicated “Pa.” He is also survived by cousins, Vaden “Jiggs” Ainscough, Sam and Cheryl Finley, Martha Evischi, Deloris Deadmond, and Leona and Larry Stanley.
Ronald was predeceased by his parents, Verel and Ina Shaw, his son Curt Shaw, and his great-grandson Kalib Paschal. Though their loss leaves a profound sorrow, those who loved him take comfort in knowing they are now reunited.
A Celebration of Life Service to honor Ronald’s incredible legacy will be held on Friday, August 15, 2025, from 4-6pm at the Sutherland-Garnier Funeral Home in Centralia, Illinois. The Shaw family would be honored by your presence as they remember and celebrate a life wonderfully lived.
