Mt. Vernon Police have identified the two men killed in a shooting in the 600 block of South 15th Street early Sunday morning. They are 20-year-old Zomarrius Williams of Mt. Vernon and 26-year-old Demonta Woodward of Mounds.
Police have also announced the arrest of 22-year-old Jerria Smith of Mt. Vernon for reckless discharge of a firearm and obstruction of justice.
Mt. Vernon Police say they are still in the early stages of the investigation and will continue to develop leads and evidence. More arrests and charges are anticipated.
Police say in addition to the two killed, five were taken to the hospital for treatment of gunshot wounds.
Mt. Vernon Police and Fire were called to the scene at 12:49 Sunday morning. They were assisted by the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office and the Illinois State Police.
