Salem Community High School was apparently struck by lightning during thunderstorm activity that mostly missed Salem late Wednesday afternoon.
Superintendent Dr. Brad Detering was at the school when the building shook after being struck. One of the air conditioner units on top of the building is believed to have been hit.
Detering says all of the air conditioning units south of the cafeteria including in the gyms are not working and not communicating with a computer program that controls their operation. Repairmen were dealing with other issues Thursday and had not yet looked over the system to see the extent of damage and what part of the air conditioning system is not working.
Detering expects to know more by early next week.
