A 53-year-old Central City man is being held in the Marion County Jail on multiple charges that began when an off-duty Wamac Police Officer saw him driving the wrong way on North Elm Street early Sunday morning.

Michael Thompson of East Marvin was eventually arrested by Centralia Police for criminal trespass to a residence and criminal damage to property and by Central City Police for alleged driving under the influence of drugs, reckless driving, improper lane usage, and operating a vehicle without insurance.  He was also taken into custody on an outstanding Marion County failure to appear warrant on a pending misdemeanor charge of criminal trespass to a residence.  The bond on the warrant is set at $5,000.

Central City Police say they could not initially find Thompson after receiving the wrong way complaint.    However, Thompson later was located at a home in the 100 block of Condit in Centralia where he was allegedly attempting to gain entry leading to the Centralia charges.   His vehicle, which matched the description of the one seen driving the wrong way, was found parked outside Quad County Ready Mix on Rhodes Street.   Thompson was arrested on the traffic charges after allegedly admitting he was the one earlier driving the vehicle.
