Dwight F. West, 84 of Odin, Illinois departed this life on March 15, 2025, with his loving family and his devoted wife by his side. Dwight was born August 28, 1940, to parents Lawrence Frederick West and Beulah (Guymon) in Odin, Illinois.

He married Peggy “Swaim” on September 12, 1957, and she survives him. He is survived by his brother Larry (Kaye) West of Texas and 4 children: Bruce (Tammy) West of Scottsboro, AL, Annette (George Proksha) Bevel, Teresa (John) Duncan, and Patty (Steve) Brough all of Centralia. Grandchildren: Brian (Amber) West, Beth (Jamison) Nicolaison, Steven Bevel, Christopher (Kristin) Bevel, Jason Hirsch, Jenny (Derrick) Stockton, Brittany (Michael Weaver) Brough & Kelsie Brough. Great Grandchildren, Coen (Paige Knutt) West, Pacey West, Ayla Nicolaison, Afton Nicolaison, Grayson Bevel, Brooklyn Hirsch, Michael Stockton and Nicholas Stockton. Dwight is also survived by numerous step-grandchildren, step-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and special friends LeeRoy, Stephanie, Oshie, and Stanley Roper.

Dwight served in the United States Air Force from 1958-1963. After returning from the Airforce he began his career with the Singer Sewing Machine Company. He later became an electrician and owned and operated a partnership with his Grandson, Brian, up until his retirement in 2010.

Dwight was an avid Bowler and loved the companionship he found at Salem Bowl. He was inducted into the Greater Carlyle Bowling Association Hall of Fame on November 2, 2013. Dwight was also a passionate outdoorsman. He was a professional goose guide for the Country Kitchen Hunting Club in Marion, Illinois for many years. Dwight also loved to fish and was part of many bass fishing clubs over the years.

Dwight adored his family and looked for any and every occasion to bring them together. He was a master on the grill and was known by all to grill the best steaks around. He will be incredibly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by a Stepfather, James V. Deal, Sisters: Genevieve “Genny” (George) Owens, Blanche (Lloyd) Rogers, Bessie (Osgood) Johannes, Cleo West Shaver. Brothers: George (Dorothy) West, John West and Jimmy West.

The family will hold a service in celebration of Dwight’s life on Saturday, March 22, 2025 at 2:00 PM with Pastor Lou Fluck officiating. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park in Centralia, with Military Honors accorded at the gravesite by the Centralia American Legion Post 446 and Centralia V.F.W. Post 2055. Visitation will occur on Saturday afternoon from noon until the time of the service at the Funeral Home.
