UNDATED (AP) — Attorneys seeking approval of the $2.8 billion legal settlement for college sports pointed to nearly 102,000 athletes who signed up to receive damages from the action, while batting down objections to what they described as the “intergalactic paradigm shift” the settlement will create across the NCAA. In a motion filed in federal court in California, plaintiff attorneys also noted that only 343 of nearly 390,000 people covered by the class-action lawsuit had opted out, while only 73 had submitted objections to the court. Judge Claudia Wilken is set to rule April 7 on whether to finalize terms of the settlement of the lawsuit filed against the NCAA and five conferences.

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — The final regular season weekend gave women’s basketball fans a potential preview of this week’s Big Ten Tournament. Southern California dominated its crosstown rival UCLA, completing a season sweep of the Bruins to win the league title. Maryland got a 3-pointer with 1 second left to beat Ohio State. Each team now comes to Indianapolis with a top four seed, a double bye into Friday’s quarterfinal round, and, yes, with something to prove this week.

UNDATED (AP) — With their first regular season conference championship in 31 years in hand, Southern California will turn its attention to the Big Ten tournament. The second-ranked Trojans know winning that championship will be difficult. The Big Ten, like the other three major conferences, have their tournaments this week. South Carolina won a coin flip with Texas to get the No. 1 seed in the SEC Tournament after the two teams finished tied atop the standings. N.C. State is the top team in the ACC with Notre Dame the second seed. TCU topped Baylor on Sunday to win the Big 12 crown and earn the No. 1 seed in that tournament.

UNDATED (AP) — The college basketball season has wound down toward the end, with some conference tournaments already starting. The major conferences still have a week left in the regular season and that means rivalry games — and some big ones. Atop the marquee is a Southeastern Conference rematch between top-ranked Auburn and No. 7 Alabama. The Tigers have been No. 1in the AP Top 25 for eight straight weeks and beat the Crimson Tide in the teams’ first meeting last month. No. 8 Michigan State also hosts rival No. 17 Michigan, North Carolina is at No. 2 Duke and Arizona State plays at No. 24 Arizona after the teams played a testy game in Tempe last month.
