A barn in rural Texico was damaged by a fire that spread from a small trash fire Saturday night.
Kell Firemen were called to the Randy Donoho residence at 6505 Walnut Hill Road where they found a small trash fire with the east wall of the 30 by 40 wood barn on fire. Firefighters were able to quickly put the fire out before it caused extensive damage.
Salem and Iuka Firefighters were called for automatic mutual aid assistance but were cancelled once firefighters arrived on the scene and assessed the situation.
Firemen were on the scene for about 30 minutes.
Kell Firemen are reminding everyone to be careful when burning. Assistant Chief Jason Franke says while the soil might be moist, the vegetation is dead and dry. He says any type of fire must be monitored closely.
The Saturday night fire was the second structure fire in 48 hours due to outside burning.
