A 20 by 30 foot small pole barn was destroyed in a fire that spread from a trash fire in rural Centralia Thursday afternoon.

Kell Fire Chief Mick McDaneld says the fire was on the Ronnie Fisher property at 1008 Myers Road.

The building was fully engulfed in flames when the first firefighters arrived on the scene.   Salem, Mt. Vernon, Iuka and the Centralia Fire Protection District responded to the fire with mutual aid.  Centralia City Firemen stood by at the Kell Fire Station in the event of another fire.

McDaneld estimated damage to the building at $20,000 with another $5,000 in damage to property stored inside including tools, a tiller and lawn mower.

The chief reports Fisher thought the fire was out when he went back inside his home, but it apparently rekindled with the strong winds.

The fire call came in at 12:42 Thursday afternoon with firemen on the scene until two pm.

Kell Firemen are urging everyone to check conditions before they burn as a Red Flag Warning is out for the region due to strong winds, low humidity, and the amount of dead vegetation that is available to fuel any fires.
