An electrical fire is blamed for damaging the second story of a Kinmundy home late Thursday afternoon.

Kinmundy-Alma Fire Chief Kevin Day says the fire was at the David Smith-Gibbson home in the 100 block of East 5th Street.

Day reported the owner was sitting on the couch when the power went off.  After restoring the breaker he heard a noise upstairs and saw smoke coming from a receptacle that apparently had shorted out.

By the time firemen arrived, there was heavy smoke upstairs and visible fire that was heading towards the attic.   Day says they got a quick knockdown isolating the fire damage and then clearing the second floor of smoke.

Firemen also helped get the family’s pets out.  None sustained injury.

Since the fire was put out so quickly, no mutual aid was called.

The fire call came in at 4:39 Thursday afternoon with firemen on the scene for about an hour.
