A 39-year-old Mt. Vernon man has been sentenced to 12 years in prison in Jefferson County Court for two counts of unlawful failure to register as a sex offender.
John Powell was earlier found guilty by a Jefferson County Court Jury at the end of a trial in early December. The prosecution and contested sentencing was led by Assistant State’s Attorney Caleb Cross.
A felony count of unlawful possession of another’s debit card was severed from the other charges and is still pending. Powell also has two other felony charges pending against him. Another failure to register as a sex offender and possession of methamphetamine charges.
