August (Augie) B. Thomas died early Sunday morning, January 12, 2025, at Centralia Manor.
He was born on January 14, 1948, to Burton and Zota (Rich) Thomas at St. Mary’s Hospital.
Augie attended Demaree Methodist Church during his younger years and graduated from CTHS in 1966. He loved the Go Cart Track and spent many hours there. He also loved playing pool and was a good player. He was a construction worker for many years but, after breaking his hip, he became a bartender in several places in the Centralia area.
He was preceded in death by his parents and by his younger brother, Jon.
He is survived by his daughter, Christi (Josh) Clark, and grandchildren, Kourtnie, Coty, Garritt, Emmalee, and Noah. He is also survived by his sister, Diana (Craig) Hess Pohlod, and sister-in-law Cynthia Thomas, and two nieces, Erica Hess Gregory, and Heather Thomas and a nephew, Justin Thomas. Our cousin, Patty, and friend Carol, were both so kind and helpful to Augie during these past few months. Rick, another friend, drove Augie to many, many doctor’s appointments and refused to take any reimbursement for these many trips. Other kind friends included Vicki, Maggie, and Kenny.
Funeral services will be held at Sutherland Funeral Home in Centralia, Illinois on Saturday, January 25, 2025. Visitation will be at 1:00 PM with the service to follow at 2:00 PM. A reception with coffee and cookies will be held at Plaza Verde following the service. Burial will happen in the Thomas family plot in Sandoval at a later date.
