David Lee Palm, age 77 of Greenville, passed away at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital in O’Fallon, Illinois on Tuesday, January 14, 2025.

Mr. Palm was born in Centralia, Illinois on May 14, 1947, the son of Victor and Dorene (Wilkey) Palm.  David married Carol Cook in Carlyle on March 21, 1998, and she survives in Greenville.

In addition to his wife Carol, David is survived by his children – Eric Palm of Hoffman, Shawn Palm of Salem, Christopher Phillips of Salem, and Malcolm Cook of Kansas City; 2 grandchildren – Seraphim Palm of Salem and Noelle Gaco of St. Louis; his sisters – Debra Foster of Hoffman and Cynthia Storment of Olney; a special uncle, Kenneth Wilkey of College Station, TX; and numerous beloved nieces and nephews.

David was preceded in death by his parents, Victor and Dorene Palm; a son – Martin Phillips; a brother – Mark Palm; and a brother-in-law – Gregg Foster.

A proud veteran of the United States Air Force, David served in Da Nang during a pivotal time in history – the Tet Offensive.  Following his military service, he remained a steadfast supporter of veterans’ organizations.  David served as commander for two years each at both the Keyesport American Legion and the Carlyle VFW.  His dedication established the charter of the Carlyle VFW Riders Post #3523.

David worked as a dispatcher for Beelman Trucking for several years and retired as a truck driver for Brink Brothers Grain and Trucking.  He was also involved with the Carlyle Jaycees and the Donnellson Masonic Lodge #255.  David was a master of the grill who loved hosting barbecues and preparing meals for others.

Visitation will be held at Zieren Funeral Home, 1111 Clinton Street, Carlyle, IL 62231 on Thursday, January 23, 2025, from 3:00-6:00 PM.  Following visitation, a memorial service with military honors will be held at 6:00 PM at Zieren Funeral Home.  Mr. Palm will be laid to rest at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery at a private service at a later date.
