Larry D. Friedrich, 79, of Centralia, passed away Thursday, January 9, 2025, at his home.

Larry was born May 16, 1945, in East St. Louis, IL, the son of Orville and Hazel (Phillips) Friedrich. He married Deborah “Debbie” Wolverton on April 3, 1971, in Villa Grove, IL and she preceded him in death on March 13, 2015.

Larry is survived by two daughters: Shannon McDaneld of Centralia and former son-in-law Chris McDaneld of Kell, Rebecka Wacker (Jon) of Hoyleton, grandchildren: Dustin Friedrich (Rachel) of Sanford, FL, Dakota McDaneld (Amanda Bernal) of Odin, Jacob Norris (Justin) of Mattoon, Joe Wacker (Danielle) of Hoyleton, and K.C. Wacker of Hoyleton; great-grandchildren: Madalyn, Harper, River, Keith, Caison, and James; Brothers and sisters-in-law: Donna Miller of Broadlands, Teresa Carney and husband Will of Monticello, and Tracey Pankau and husband David of Effingham; also surviving are many nieces and nephews.

Larry was preceded in death by his parents: Orville and Hazel Friedrich, wife: Deborah “Debbie” Friedrich, and a sibling Tommy Friedrich.

Larry was a member of Zion Hill Missionary Baptist Church in Centralia. Larry graduated from SIU with a bachelor’s in Horticulture and was a proud Saluki. He was a former member of the American Legion Post 446 and a member of the Vietnam Veterans of America. Larry served in the Marine Corp as a member of Mike Battery 412 during the Vietnam War. He was very active on bringing recognition to Vietnam Veterans. He worked at Warren G. Murray Developmental Center for several years in the Maintenance department. After retiring from Murray Center, he was a lab courier for Veterinary Reference Lab in Collinsville. Larry traveled a lot through the years, and enjoyed hunting, fishing, and watching movies. Most of all he cherished the time he spent with his family.

Funeral Services for Larry D. Friedrich will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, January 17, 2025, at the Sutherland-Garnier Funeral Home in Centralia. Burial will follow at Zion Hill Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery in Centralia, with Military Rites accorded at the grave by the American Legion Post 446 and the V.F.W. Post 2055. A visitation will be held Friday, January 17, 2025, at the Funeral Home from 9:00 am to the time of service. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Zion Hill Missionary Baptist Cemetery Fund or to the Disabled American Veterans, or to Toys for Tots, or any other Veteran’s organization of donor’s choice and will be accepted by the Sutherland-Garnier Funeral Home at 235 North Sycamore Street in Centralia, IL 62801 (618) 532-3523, who is honored to be of service to Larry’s family.
