David Hood Smith, 68, of Centralia, IL, passed away Thursday, January 9, 2025. Smitty was born March 5, 1956, in Centralia, IL to Howard and Delores “Duckie” (Wilkey) Smith.
Smitty was a loving father, grandfather, brother, and friend. He was a devoted son to his mother, Duckie whom he thought the world of. He taught compassion and patience to all of those around him. Everyone knew they could count on him when they called. He was a hard worker and a dedicated man. Smitty was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps. He worked many years with AC Man, Public Works, and various other jobs as an equipment operator. An avid sports fan, you could always count on him to tell you how the St. Louis Cardinals, Blues, and Rams were doing. Smitty loved listening to church on the radio, camping and spending time with his family. He will be deeply missed.
Smitty is survived by his daughter Shirley “LeeAnn” Smith of Centralia, IL, and sons William Smith of Centralia, IL, Milo Smith-Scott of Marion, IA; 8 grandchildren Celesté (Justin) Rider, Juan Colin-Lopez, Andrea Colin-Lopez, Carter Smith, Hannah Smith, William Smith, Jace Smith, Nova Smith; 2 great-grandchildren Nikolai and Aniyah; siblings Vickie Campbell, Sharon Martin, Mike Smith, Lola Smith, William Smith, Robert Smith all of Centralia, IL; and many nieces, nephews, and friends he considered family.
Smitty was preceded in death by his parents, Howard and Delores (Wilkey) Smith, brother Ricky Smith, and sister Linda Rider.
A celebration of life will be held by the family at a later date.
