The Daffy Dill Garden Club has announced the Downtown Salem Flower Box Decorating Contest winners.
The theme this year was Frosty the Snowman.
Taking first place was Marion County Savings Bank for their box on West Main by Sweney Corner. Jeannie Firnhaber of the marketing department did the design.
“We just wanted to do something that could maybe be a little interactive,” Firnhaber said. “We have a great downtown and with all the decorations it’s so adorable during the Christmas season. So we thought, ‘take a selfie with Frosty,’ maybe we could get some people up, have a little fun and enjoy it.”
Second place went to Mandy Lutz of the Baby Botique. Her box is in front of their store in the 100 block of West Main.
“I just kind of went with the Frosty theme,” Lutz said. “I drew out each picture of the characters, painted them, and put them all in different places along with the tree in there.”
Third place winner was Michelle Daniels of the Daniels-Wilzbach Law Office who decorated the box in front of thier office in the 100 block of West Main.
“We’re super thrilled with the Frosty decorations,” Daniels said. “We’ve got the antique Frosty and then we just happenstanced across the little characters that go along with the Frosty movie. This is our first year that we’ve tried it, and we were really excited about it because it’s a thing we were really happy about.”
First place winner gets $500, second place $300, and third place $200.
The garden club hopes everyone will view the various flower box designs during the Christmas Season.
