The Patoka School Board is seeking guidance from the Marion County Health Department before making a final decision on a coronation event being planned to replace Homecoming.
Superintendent David Rademacher says the school board wanted to hold the event for seniors in place of a homecoming dance that wouldn’t be possible under current COVID-19 guidelines. The big question is, do the candidates for coronation count towards the maximum 50 allowed in the gym, or can it be like sports where the participants do not count towards the total. If a large number is possible, the school board will then look at allowing lower classmen to participate. The coronation is currently set for April 9th or tenth.
The board set high school and junior high graduation. High School graduation will be on Friday night, May 21st, at 7 pm. Junior High promotion will be on Thursday, May 27th, at 7:00 pm. If no additional snow days are used, Rademacher says the school year will conclude before Memorial Day.
The board discussed potential summer improvement projects but made no decisions.
The board hired Micah Schnatz as a Career Technical Education Tutor contingent on the approval of CTE. The board also approved the extension of the transportation contracts.
