The Salem City Council on Monday night voted to approve a $20,000 contract with Arndt Municipal Services to lead the search for a new city manager.
After the approval, the council went into closed session with a principal of the firm to discuss what they wanted in a new city manager.
Mayor Nic Farley shared some of his objectives before the session began.
“There’s got to be somebody who fits the culture of Salem,” Farley said. “It’s got to be somebody who’s detail oriented, it’s got to be somebody who knows how to manage budgets and has familiarity with municipal services and municipal law. We’re looking for the right fit for the position and we’ve been working on a job description. That’s something that Arndt Municipal Services is going to help us with and make sure the candidate knows the job requirements.”
Farley wants a new city manager on board before Annette Sola retires from the position. Sola said Monday night she has set her retirement for the end of June of next year.
The city council approved the annual resolution setting aside motor fuel tax revenue for the summer oil and chip street maintenance program. $211,000 is being set aside for next summer’s program.
