Lunches to be provided for many in Salem area left without by shutdown of Project Bread

By Bruce Kropp Nov 13, 2024 | 1:41 PM
Salem City Officials Jed Casburn, Leah Dellicarpini, Courtney Mitchell, Keli Barrow, Travis Sanders and Tabitha Meador spent time preparing sack lunches to be delivered to area seniors.

A group of organizations have come together to provide meals to the homebound in Salem and a large part of Marion County until Project Bread gets the funding they need to reopen.

The meals are starting today and will be a bag lunch today as well as Thursday and Friday of this week.  The goal is to provide hot lunches beginning on Monday of next week.

If you were served by Project Bread in the Salem, Odin, Sandoval, Patoka, Iuka, Alma, and Kell area, you may call Salem City Hall at 548-2222 to get your name on the list for deliveries. If you call by four this afternoon, a sack lunch, including a turkey sandwich, can be delivered today.  The Kinmundy Christian Church is providing for the Kinmundy area.

Watch for updates on the project later today.

The Salem City Council Chambers are turned into a meal preparation area for those formerly served by Project Bread in Salem.
