Norma J. Thomas, 69, of Mount Vernon, Illinois, passed away at 6:25 pm on November 7, 2024, at SSM Health Good Samaritan Hospital in Mount Vernon. She was born March 6, 1955, in Mount Vernon to the late Everett and Mary (Carlton) Ellis. Norma married Jimmy Thomas on July 1, 1972. They were blessed with 52 years of marriage.
In addition to her beloved husband, Norma is survived by children, Trina Louise Thomas of Mount Vernon and Jimmy Lee Thomas of Mount Vernon; grandchildren, Jessica Clemens and husband, Alex of Ina, Illinois, Kayleigh Thomas of Mount Vernon, Austin Kiselewski of Mount Vernon, and McKennah Upton of Mount Vernon; great-grandchildren, Jadelynn Irvin and Rayden Irvin; brother, Roger Ellis and wife, Jan; sister-in-law, Ramona Ellis; special nephew, Mike Ellis and wife, Cindy; and several other nephews.
In addition to her parents, Norma was preceded in death by her brothers, Leslie Dwayne “Les” Ellis and Larry Ellis; and sister-in-law, Maxine Ellis.
Norma was a faithful member of the Central Christian Church and was baptized there. She will be remembered as a devoted wife, cherished mother, loving grandmother, dear sister, and friend.
A Visitation will be held Monday, November 11, 2024 from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Hughey Funeral Home in Mount Vernon. A Graveside Service will be held Tuesday, November 12, 2024 at 1:00 pm at Old Union Cemetery in Mount Vernon with Mr. Jared LeCrone officiating. Interment will follow. Memorials may be made in Norma’s honor to the charity of the donor’s choice.
