The Marion County Board will remain 100 percent Republican as Republican candidates won both of the contested races in Tuesday’s election.

Republican Michael Douglas won the District Two seat over Democrat Megan Young Geary  77 percent of the vote to 21 percent.  The vote tally minus any late mail-in votes was 2,821 for Douglas and 735 for Geary.  Republican Cody Rose beat Democrat Thomas Crossland III by a 67 to 30 percent margin.   The final vote not including late mail-in ballots was Rose 2,231 votes and Crossland 997 votes.

Douglas has been attending Marion County Board meetings and is ready to join the board.

“You know the budget will be made for next year before I get on the board but I hope we can try and impress on other taxing bodies that taxes come from the taxpayers and we have to control spending.”

Douglas says he agrees with the taxpayers’ group that a smaller government that doesn’t spend so much money is the right direction.

Rose will also be a first-time board member.

“I appreciate the voters of Marion County in giving me the opportunity to look out for the needs of the citizens of Marion County and look forward to be able to serve in another role.  I will give them my best.”

Rose says he has two major issues: the county’s finances and solving its animal control problem.

Five other county board members were re-elected without opposition.  They are Brock Waggoner and Tracy Murray in District One, Steve Whritenour and Timothy McCance in District Three, and David Iossi in District Five.
