The Wamac city council on Monday approved new wage scale and benefits for the police department beginning in January of 2025. New hires attending the police academy will make $23 per hour. Pay increases to $24 per hour after graduation, then to $25 after six months and $26 after 18 months. Benefits include paid holidays with vacation time increasing with years of service, health and life insurance, flexible scheduling, and uniforms provided.
The council also approved a motion to not participate in state water sampling. Wamac will opt to do its own independent water testing.
At the end of the meeting, the council approved a donation to this year’s Adopt-A-Family program organized by WJBD-WSIQ and the Centralia Youth Center.
