Keep Salem Beautiful has presented its first Business Beautiful Award to the ABC Pub on South Broadway.
The newly reestablished program will recognize businesses for attractiveness, cleanliness and window displays.
Sharon Blair is heading the program.
“ABC was an easy choice because it’s always clean, always pretty, so we’re very happy to give them the very first Business Beautiful award,” Blair said.
Among those on hand for the award was Salem Economic Development Director Lea Dellicarpini who has been pushing for improvement to the appearance of downtown Salem.
“We thank ABC for being here and investing in our community,” Dellicarpini said. “It is a beautiful place to hang out and meet friends. It’s a community staple. It’s a cornerstone of our downtown, and I’m grateful for all the work and dedication that she’s put into it.”
Owner Brandi Drenckpohl says she is very appreciative of the award.
“My staff has pride not only in the business but in the community and I think it shows when they’re out picking up trash outside, helping us keep the flowers watered,” Drenckpohl said. “I hope that this will be a catalyst for other businesses, maybe encourage them to do things to the exterior of their building so that when people drive into our town, they notice the pride that as business owners we have in our businesses.”
Drenckpohl says it was just about a year ago they were able to purchase the former Bicentennial Park next to their building that allowed development of the outdoor patio.
The Business Beautiful Award will be presented four times a year. The winner receives a $250 cash award and a plaque. Members of the board of directors of KSB will make the decision on the awardees.
