Marion County Clerk Steve Fox has issued his voter turnout project for Tuesday’s election.
Fox bases his estimate on what he has seen in early and vote by mail numbers.
“This election has picked up here at the end. It started out a little bit slow with early voting,” Fox said. “We’re right at 3,500 early voters. About 1,400 have voted by mail and already got those back to us. Comparing back to past elections, we’re never going to be back to 2020, I don’t think. We had 5,600 early voters (in 2020). We’re more in line with a governor’s election and a little better. I’m going to say that we’re probably going to be around 65 percent of our active voters who are going to turn out for this election, so that’s really good.”
Fox says that number is down from the 71-percent in the 2020 election.
Fox reports the few locally contested races don’t appear to be drawing much interest.
The contested races include the 12th Congressional District race between incumbent Republican Mike Bost and Democratic Challenger Brian Roberts. Democrat Jon Meador is challenging Timothy Hudspeth for Marion County State’s Attorney. The coroner’s race features Democrat Anton Dubrick and Claude Howell, Junior. There are two contested races for Marion County Board. In District Two, Democrat Megan Young Geary is facing Michael Douglas. In District Four, Democrat Thomas Crossland III is facing Republican Cody Alan Rose.
Judge Amanda Ade-Harlow is up for retention.
Patoka School District residents are being asked to make all school board members elected by all district residents, instead of requiring some board members to be from specific portions of the district.
There are three statewide advisory questions. They include one that would subject candidates who interfere or attempts to interfere with an election work with civil penalties. Another suggests an additional three percent income tax on those with an income greater than $1-million. The third would require health insurance plans to cover in vitro fertilization.
Polls will be open from six am to seven pm on Tuesday. Fox says there are no changes in polling places.
WJBD-FM will have complete election coverage beginning around eight pm.
