The Salem Recreation Department will continue two traditions this week.
Recreation Director Jed Casburn says the Halloween costume contest is planned for Thursday night at the Salem Theatre just prior to Trick or Treat.
“I know it’s kind of a tight schedule with people getting off of work, but we would like for them to get in there and get registered by about 5:20… Hopefully everybody can get there and enjoy that. We’ve got categories as always, 3 and younger, 4 to 7, 8 to 12, and then we’ve got our family category, and we’ll give them some prizes, hopefully for a fun night before they go trick or treating.”
Trick or treating in Salem is planned for six to eight Thursday night. It will be followed by Trick or Treat on Main and Broadway downtown as well as at various Trunk or Treats around Salem. A new event this year is the Salem Community Activity inside trunk or treat. Kids are invited to join area residents who want to set up in the gym for trick or treating.
On Friday night, Casburn says the recreation department will hold Family Fun Night from six to eight in Bryan Memorial Park near the Aquatic Center.
“We’re gonna have some wagon rides, Kim’s party jumps, and some food served by Saved with Amazing Grace.”
The event had to be canceled last year due to rainy weather, but the forecast is looking much better this year.
