The first full color high quality magazine featuring stories on Salem Community High School programs and students is nearing completion.

Superintendent Dr. Brad Detering says the magazine is the first of four that will be published by Journey 12 under a $181,693 Stronger Connections Grant.

“The grant allows us to contract with the company, but we still have to do a lot of the legwork of getting them the information about who’s going to be in it,” Detering said. “Then they come on site and conduct interviews. They were here for one full day taking pictures, conducting interviews, and taking a look around in order to gather information in order to be able to put together a publication such as this.”

Detering says articles highlighting several vocational programs will be among the contents of the first magazine that should be mailed to district residents between November 8th and 15th.

The grant also includes some money to enhance programs for some students through the school social worker.

“There’s a social-emotional learning part where we’re contracting with various services to come in and provide some programs for kids in the SEL arena.”

The Salem High Board also gave approval to a contract with AALCO for the fabrication of motorized batting cages at a cost of $34,950.  A contract with SportsCon was approved to install the motorized batting cases at a cost of $13,650.

The board accepted the resignations of Danielle Parker and Dena Sullens as part-time kitchen helpers and Katelyn Biegelheisen as Assistant Track Coach.

The board employed Jeff Littrell as 2nd shift custodian.  Gavin Winkler was approved as a volunteer bowling coach pending certification.
