A 35-year-old Salem man was injured when he lost control of his car and ran off Route 37 South near Paradise Cemetery just north of the Salem City Limits.

Salem Police say James Scott of Church Road was in the process of driving himself to Salem Township Hospital for a medical problem when he left the pavement, ran into the roadside ditch, and jumped the embankment before his SUV rolled multiple times.   A mailbox and power line were reportedly struck as well.   The vehicle came to a stop on the driver’s side.

Salem Fire Protection District was called to extricate Scott from the vehicle.   They were able to get him out by removing the sunroof.   Scott was transported to Salem Township Hospital before being airlifted to a St. Louis hospital.

Scott was the only one in the car.

The crash was reported just before one Sunday.
