The Apostolics of Salem continued their long tradition of putting on a block party for the community this weekend.
The church’s outreach director Marcus Collins says more than 320 attended the Saturday event on the church grounds that included free food, yard games, prize drawings and inflatables.
“The inflatables are always the most popular among the children,” Collins said. “This year we had a little bit of rain in the beginning, so some of the inflatables turned into waterslides. That made it kind of fun for the kids.”
And why do they put on the Block Party every year.
“This is just our way of giving back to our community. We provide it all at no charge as a way of saying thank you to our community and letting our community know that we’re here for them.”
It takes 70 volunteers from the church to put on the annual event. While the event has been held for many years, this is the second year back following a break for COVID-19.
