The United Way of South Central Illinois has been appointed administrator of $ 38,438 for the Emergency Food and Shelter Program awarded by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security / Federal Emergency Management Agency.
The funding allocation for Marion County is $18,548 and for Jefferson County $19,890. A board comprised of local community leaders and the United Way of South Central Illinois will determine funding allocation through a competitive application process.
Under the terms of the grant money can be used for mass shelter, mass feeding, other food, temporary lodging, rent/mortgage assistance and utility assistance.
Those applying must meet the following criteria:
- have non-profit status
- maintain an accounting system
- practice non-discrimination
- demonstrate the capacity to deliver emergency food and/or shelter programs
- have a voluntary board (if the agency is a private voluntary organization)
