A 42-year-old Centralia man was formally charged in Marion County Court Tuesday with reckless discharge of a firearm and aggravated unlawful use of a weapon after allegedly firing a gun near a residence in the 600 block of Gragg Street.

Judge Mark Stedelin rejected the prosecution’s request to hold Dennis Parks of North Sycamore without bond.

Centralia Police say they initially responded to a shots fired outside the home around ten Monday morning where a female resident said Parks’, the father of her children, was banging on her door.  She reported at least one gunshot was fired.  Parks had earlier sent her a text message warning her not to have anyone in her house while his children were there.

Centralia K9 Ace was deployed after Parks was located near Rasback and Sycamore and located two loaded guns in the area.   Parks had a valid FOID card, but not a concealed carry license.

During his first appearance in court, probable cause was found to continue the charges against Parks.   A public defender was appointed.  Judge Stedelin released Parks under conditions that he not possess a firearm or other dangerous weapon and have no contact with the female or her residence.   He is due back in court September 3rd for a preliminary hearing.
