The Salem Township Hospital Board Monday afternoon approved moving forward on a $255,000 renovation of the emergency room/outpatient entrance at the rear of the hospital.
Hospital President Kendra Taylor says the next step is getting approval from the Illinois Department of Public Health.
“Right now as soon as you come into those doors you walk in and you aren’t completely sure where to go. The information and wellness front person is in the waiting room area so they have to make sure they are paying attention. So we will have information that is visible when you come into the front doors and they will be able to help navigate you to the triage area that will be located right there as well to the patient access areas for registration.”
Taylor says the change will also allow for better segregation of patients based on the type of treatment they need as soon as they enter the hospital.
